    • Input Output Group (IOG) alerted Cardano community members to steer clear of its official YouTube account following a security breach that broadcast a fraudulent token giveaway.
    • The deception featured a manipulated video of Charles Hoskinson alongside a QR code designed to steer viewers toward a malicious transaction mechanism.

Cardano community members received urgent advisories to steer clear of Input Output Group’s (IOG) YouTube platform after unauthorized actors apparently hijacked the profile to stream a deceptive cryptocurrency giveaway utilizing likenesses of Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson.

On Sept. 18, IOG published a notice urging the public to refrain from engaging with the streaming channel until the situation was resolved. The organization specifically instructed audiences to avoid clicking any provided links, transferring funds, or disclosing personal data via the material hosted on the page.

Furthermore, Hoskinson shared via an X (formerly Twitter) statement that the “IOG YouTube apparently has been compromised. Do not trust any videos or click on any links on it.” He mentioned that personnel were actively collaborating with YouTube officials to purge the unauthorized material and recover control of the login credentials.

Reports indicate the hijacked broadcast featured footage resembling a Project Catalyst town hall meeting, utilizing what appeared to be an artificial intelligence-doctored recording of Hoskinson. This transmission pitched a crypto giveaway guaranteeing that participants could double their cryptocurrency balances. Throughout the stream, a QR code remained visible to route users into a scam payment procedure. Neither IOG nor any authorized Cardano entity endorsed the promotion.

This occurrence mirrors a deceptive pattern that the Cardano network has cautioned supporters against for an extended period. Official safety guidelines for Cardano explicitly advise against fraudulent livestreams and giveaways featuring Hoskinson that guarantee increased ADA returns in exchange for deposits. The documentation reiterates that authentic promotions will never demand upfront cryptocurrency transfers from users.

Cardano Price Moves Higher as Scam Hits IOG Channel

This security breach unfolds while ADA experiences significant momentum across the wider digital asset landscape. Based on market metrics, Cardano traded near $0.2164 on Sept. 18, following a close around $0.2025 on Sept. 17. Figures from Investing.com revealed that ADA advanced past 9% on the session, touching an intraday peak close to $0.2173.

Historical figures provided by CoinGecko peg ADA’s valuation at roughly $8.1 billion, while daily trading activity surpassed $558 million. Prior to these successive recoveries, ADA settled at $0.1954 on Sept. 15.

Available reports present zero indication that the underlying Cardano network suffered a security breach. The event is strictly limited to the apparent takeover of IOG’s YouTube channel and the malicious media distributed through it. Up to this point, IOG has not publicly detailed the method used to breach the profile, whether secondary systems experienced disruptions, or if any participants actually lost funds to the fraudsters.

For individuals who stumbled upon the broadcast, danger stems primarily from engaging with the fraudulent elements rather than viewing the footage itself. Cardano’s defensive protocols stress that crypto transfers directed to illegitimate wallet destinations are typically irreversible, cementing demands to “send ADA first” as a primary red flag.
